As I was driving on the highway this weekend, I was passed by a burnt orange Corvette and I thought to myself “‘sick burnt orange corvette,” said no one ever.” And yet here we are, talking about the 2019 BMW i8 Roadster while looking at the car in burnt orange.
My position on the color remains the same: it’s gross. But that’s not so say that the 2019 BMW i8 Roadster in a less offensive color isn’t a car I would want. It for sure is. Just to be clear on the color, it isn’t being called burnt orange. Instead, BMW is calling this color E-copper. As you’ll see in the photos below, the color doesn’t just adorn the exterior. Oh no, New Tera World Copper with E-Copper upholstery is also all over the interior.
Enough about the color. What about performance?
The 2019 BMW i8 Roadster is a fairly capable hybrid. It doesn’t exactly turn heads like Tesla’s new roadster (which can hit 0-60 in 1.9 seconds) but it has a new electric motor, which is still paired with a tweaked 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-3 ICE. The engine is capable of putting out a total of 369 horsepower and it’s able to hit 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. For 2019, BMW is also adding a high-voltage battery that increases the range of the i8 Roadster by 3 miles on pure electric power from the previous model. Lastly, the new i8 can go from being topped to topless in 16 seconds.
The 2019 BMW i8 is set to reach showrooms next spring. Pricing information is expected to be announced closer to the market launch.
