We all love a good comeback. After a 17-year hiatus, the Mustang Mach 1 is back for the 2021 model year. The Mach 1 is setting a new standard in the Mustang lineup with its track-ready performance.
The fastback coupe is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 with a projected 480 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. The new Mach 1 also has tweaked parts from the Mustang Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500.
Bold style and track-ready performance
The Mach 1 is full of new and old inspirations. Revised Shelby GT350 components include the intake manifold and oil filter adapter. The car comes standard with a Tremec™ 3160 6-speed manual transmission from the GT350.
It also features special aerodynamics that will increase downforce by 22% over the Mustang GT. With the optional Handling package, downforce is increased by 150%, making the Mach 1 that much closer to the tarmac.
There’s also the introduction of Mustang’s first rev-matching system. The system goes for either the 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 10-speed SelectShift™ automatic.
The 6-speed is paired with a revised GT350 oil cooler system, which will increase engine oil cooling capability by 50%, and Mustang GT’s twin-disc clutch and short-throw shifter. The 10-speed has an upgraded torque converter and calibration that optimizes torque capability, shift, and enhances overall performance. A second air-to-oil cooler will increase cooling capacity by 75%.
The car sits on new 19-inch x 9.5-inch front and 19-inch x 10-inch rear five-spoke Tarnished Dark-painted aluminum wheels, the modern version of the classic Magnum 500 wheels. The Handling Package option comes standard with a wider stance with 19-inch x 10.5-inch front and 19-inch x 11-inch rear wheels.
A new front fascia and grilles give the Mach 1 improved cooling and aerodynamics. Fender badges, mirror caps, and the Mustang emblem in the grille have a low-gloss Magnetic Gray treatment for a distinctive look that celebrates Mach 1 heritage. The interior features a Dark Spindrift 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a large special badge. Learn More
