This year marks the 70th anniversary of Jackie Robinson making his Major League Baseball debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. To mark this momentous occasion, adidas Baseball released the 2017 Special Edition Jackie Robinson adizero Afterburner cleats.
April 15th is officially recognized as Jackie Robinson Day in the MLB, and this year it’ll be bigger than most. These cleats are made using a cream colored premium suede as the canvas. Adidas unveiled these cleats today in addition to announcing a new field to be built at Jackie’s high school in Pasadena, California.
These cleats feature gold embroidered stenciling to mark the date Jackie first debuted in the MLB. According to adidas, the stenciling is inspired by Jackie’s gym bag. The bronze color pays homage to Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field, the field where Jackie began and finished his storied career.
Beginning on April 14th, these cleats will be available for purchase on adidas.com for $100. They’ll also be sold at Eastbay and DicksSportingGoods.
