These are the best whiskeys in the world according to the experts. They are the Best in Class winners of the 2017 World Spirts Competition.
The competition was held earlier this month in San Francisco and it concluded with experts naming the best whiskeys on the planet. There are some familiar faces amongst the rank and file. There are also several exquisite whiskeys which are newcomers to the world stage. Even if you follow the wide world of whiskey closely you will be surprised by some of the spirits named as top whiskeys.
Awards were given out in numerous categories, ranging from Best Rye Whiskey to Best Armagnac to Best Corn Whisky to Best Blended Irish Whiskey. The 2017 San Francisco World Spirts Competition anointed the best whiskeys on the planet for every varietal.
In total, there were 2,252 entries in this year’s competition. Each whiskey vying for the title of ‘Best in Show’ just like a dog show. There was five ‘Best in Show’ awards bestowed upon distillers this year. Croizet Extra Cognac took home the Best in Show honors for Best Cognac. Ron Cartavio XO Rum from Lima, Peru was named Best in Show for Rum. Pisco La Caravedo Puro Torontel Pisco from Ica, Peru was named Best in Show for Best Pisco. France’s Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge Liqueur took home the Best in Show honors for Best Fruit Liqueur. Lastly, WhistlePig Boss Hog: Black Prince Rye Whiskey from Vermont won Best in Show for ‘Best Whiskey’.
