Milk and cookies. Name a more iconic duo. Erm…gin and juice? Platinum recording artist, TV host, actor, and the original OGG Snoop Dogg has worn many hats. From his successful debut album Doggystyle in 1993 to his hit singles “What’s My Name?” and “Gin & Juice,” Snoop has topped the charts and rocked the music industry. He’s had 96 award nominations, including 17 Grammys, and has won 27 awards, including the BET and AMA Awards. And who can forget his roles in Malibu’s Most Wanted or Soul Plane? Snoop dabbled in TV as well, from cameos on Weeds and The Boondocks to producing and starring in his own show Doggy Fizzle Televizzle on MTV. Snoop’s newest adventure puts him in your kitchen. His first cookbook From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from The Boss Dogg’s Kitchen debuted in October and it is lit!

The start of a beautiful, delicious friendship

The book includes opening words from none other than the OG of all that is DIY, cooking, home decor, and crafts: Martha Stewart. What sounds like an odd friendship is a beautiful, well-balanced, and comedic partnership. It all started when Snoop appeared on Stewart’s talk show Martha in 2008 for a cooking segment on mashed potatoes. He returned the next year to bake brownies for the holidays and the rest was history. The culinary duo’s Emmy-nominated variety show Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party debuted in the fall of 2016, featuring guests and of course, cooking. Guests have included Seth Rogen, Ice Cube, Jamie Foxx, 50 Cent, Post Malone, DJ Khaled, and Wiz Khalifa. It’s no surprise Snoop would soon enter the publishing world with a cookbook!

Cook like a real OG

From Crook to Cook isn’t your run-of-the-mill celebrity cookbook. Sure, it’s got recipes and they’re everyday foods you’ll actually want and can make, but it’s hilarious as well and gives you some insight into Snoop’s life. It also reads like he’s actually there talking to you too. After the introduction, the 192-page hardcover welcomes you with a look inside Snoop’s pantry and fridge. The pantry’s got the essentials: lemon pepper, seasoning salt, hot sauce, maple syrup, soy sauce, honey, tuna, ketchup, instant macaroni and cheese, and Pop Tarts. He also provides funny and very relatable reasons why he has each item in his pantry. Under ketchup, he writes: “…what barbeque is complete without ketchup? Picture that—burgers, hot dogs, sausages—and no ketchup to smother on top? Just some meat in a dry-ass bun? Nah, not in the Dogg’s household.” Well said, Snoop. Truer words were never spoken.

The Doggfather shows his culinary prowess with 50 recipes straight from his own collection. The chapters are separated in categories: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Dessert, Drinks (gin and juice, anyone?), and Parties. There’s a mix of staples like Baked Mac & Cheese as well as new takes on classics like Easy Orange Chicken and Soft Flour Tacos. When you want to kick it up a notch, you can tackle the Lobster Thermidor or Filet Mignon recipes. For the munchies, Snoop’s got you covered with Frito BBQ Twists and chewy Starbursts.
