Rolls-Royce Ghost Is Painted With Actual Diamonds

The price of a 2017 Rolls-Royce Ghost is just shy of $300,000, but this is no ordinary model of this already extraordinary car. This particular Rolls-Royce Ghost is painted using real, ‘ethically sourced’, diamonds. The car is painted using 1,000 ground up diamonds to be exact.

This particular car has been given the name ‘Elegance’. What gives Elegance it’s unique look is the diamond paint, obviously. I’m sure you all know that diamonds are some of the hardest objects on planet earth. It’s not like you can just take a hammer and start breaking up diamonds to mix into paint. It took a team of Rolls-Royce Technical Laboratory scientists two months to solve this riddle.

Once they figured out how to grind the diamonds up fine enough to work into paint they hit a roadblock. The issue was finding out a way to make the diamond paint smooth enough to give the car its desired shimmer. Rolls-Royce could’ve just applied metallic paint to ‘Elegance’ to create a shimmer but they wanted something unique.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost Elegance was unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The folks at Rolls-Royce aren’t disclosing how much money it cost to build the paint. However, I think we can all safely assume that 1,000 diamonds being ground into paint cost a pretty penny. In fact, I’d be shocked if this wasn’t the most expensive car paint ever manufactured.
