The Toyota Supra Is Back With More Power and Style as Ever

If you’re into racing entertainment, you know and love the Toyota Supra. The sports car and grand tourer was popular in the Fast and the Furious series, Need for Speed, and Initial D, among other video games and media. The first four generations of the Supra were produced from 1978 to 2002, and the fifth in 2019. Brimming with history and a loyal following, the Supra is back with powerful, new upgrades.

A new engine and much more

The 2021 Supra packs a powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, also found in the BMW Z4 M40i. The new engine churns out 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. Toyota is claiming a 3.9-second zero-to-60-mph time. The new Supra will also have a new chassis, with updates like lightweight aluminum braces and front and rear bump stops. There’s also revised damper tuning, programming for the electric power steering, and adaptive dampers, differential, and stability control.

Toyota is offering 1,000 Supra 3.0s as a special A91 Edition with pricing expected to start at around $57k. The special edition is offered in Nocturnal (black) or Refraction (blue). Distinguishing features include the black carbon-fiber lip spoiler in the rear and 19-inch matte black wheels. The A91 Edition also has unique C-pillar graphics and carbon-fiber mirrors. The interior features an Alcantara trim and blue-accented stitching.

The Supra will also now be offered as a four-cylinder option in the U.S. This option is 200 pounds lighter and has a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter, also sourced from BMW, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The zero-to-60-mph time is said to be 5.0 seconds. Other differences between the 2.0- and 3.0-liter Supras are the differential and adaptive dampers, wheels, seat adjustment, and audio system. The 2.0-liter Supra has an audio system with four speakers compared to the 3.0’s 10 speakers.
