After a 16 month layoff following a third back surgery, Tiger Woods is making his return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge. His comeback also features another comeback, which is that of his signature Nike TW shoes. The new model, the TW ’17, have abandoned the Nike Free look of the last few TW releases and are built like a more traditional golf shoe. This change makes sense since Tiger abandoned the last version of his shoes mid-year for more traditional shoes. I guess they help him activate his glutes.
Woods and Tobie Hatfield, Nike Senior Director of Athlete Innovation, have been designing and redesigning the new TW ’17s since July 2015.
Woods has been testing four different iterations of the shoe since February.
In April of 2016, Nike delivered the finished product to the 14-time major champion and according to the shoe company, it is the only golf shoe Woods has worn since returning from surgery.
Here is the finished product.
My personal opinion (because I know you want it): The TW ’17s look like fine golf shoes, but I don’t think they would look good with shorts. Since I (mostly) play golf in shorts, I think they might be a pass.
The NIke TW ’17 will be available in Spring 2017.
