Under Armour is a mainstay in athletic wear and has sponsored many household names in different industries and sports. The brand has collaborated with basketball star Stephen Curry, history-making ballerina Misty Copeland, and football champ Tom Brady. Under Armour has also worked with non-athletes as well, like actor Dwayne Johnson, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, and rapper A$AP Rocky. They cover a wide breadth of sports and activities, including basketball, soccer, hiking, running, and golf, as well as generic athleisure. One industry not explored as much in most major athletic wear brands is hunting. Under Armour’s newest boot release is changing that.
Bringing hunting to Under Armour
With the help of professional bowhunter Cam Hanes, Under Armour’s making their way to the hunting sport. The CH1 GTX Hunting Boots have been in development for three years with its roots stemming from the 2016 SHOT Show. It all started with a conversation between Hanes and Under Armour on the lack of hunting representation in the footwear market. There was no boot that matched Hanes’ pace and persistence in the wild. That conversation spurred the three-year journey to creating the ultimate boot for the ultimate hunter. The CH1 made its debut with a launch event at the 2019 SHOT Show in Las Vegas.
Hunting’s no walk in the park. You need the right footwear to keep up with you, whether you’re waiting in the bushes or on the move. When it comes to hunting, Hanes raises the bar and pushes his body beyond limitations. He is widely sought after for his advice and experience and has motivated thousands of hunters with his writings, television appearances, and social media. Hanes has been featured at widespread hunters gatherings, including being the keynote speaker, hosted TV shows, self-published two books, and more. To add to his list of achievements, Hanes is now also the first professional hunter to have their own signature series with Under Armour.
Rugged protection and durable construction
Every part of the CH1 has a purpose. Hanes and Under Armour Design Team Lead Sean Denniston agreed that the CH1 had three requirements: a precise fit, rugged foot protection, and a heavy athletic slant. The boots are constructed with windproof and waterproof Gore-tex, so you’ll be prepared for the hunt rain or shine. It includes a cast PU Exo-Skeleton that’s attached over breathable mesh, so you have flexibility and durability as well as strength and support. The boot features a Vibram Megagrip sole with multi directional lugs and an off camber bite and rigidity. There’s an integrated two-zone BOA lacing system, anatomical insoles, and double-density EVA foam for ultimate comfort in mind. The CH1 boots feature the Cam Hanes “CH” arrow logo on the outside and his signature line “Keep Hammerin’” inside.
Of course, Hanes was the first to try the boots out in the backcountry. While sporting the CH1, he took down one of the largest backcountry bulls to date. If that doesn’t show how tough these boots are, what does? These boots were made for all kinds of heavy-duty action! They can handle extreme heat and cold and miles of stream crossings, side-hilling, and even the heaviest pack-outs. The CH1 has the function of a tactical boot and the performance and camouflage of a hunting boot.
